On June 27, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) praised Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton for his decision to sign overtime waivers for the dedicated men and women in Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
FLEOA National President Jon Adler said, "Director Morton understands that protecting our homeland is a budgetary priority, and I commend him for his willingness to fund those carrying out ERO'S vital overtime operations."
Prior to Morton signing the waiver, numerous ERO Officers were on the verge of reaching the annual overtime pay cap of $35,000. This would have prevented them from working beyond their regular tour of duty, and impacted their ability to pursue and capture violent felons who are in the U.S. unlawfully. Director Morton's decisive action will help sustain those who carry out the vital ERO mission.
Last week, FEDagent reported on ERO'S (and HSI's) success in executing "Operation Cross Check." Successful missions like "Operation Cross Check" are vital to our homeland security. They require law enforcement officers to be available at all hours, and have flexibility to pursue violent criminals beyond their regular tour of duty.
FLEOA applauds Director Morton for understanding this, as well as his sustained implementation of the Secure Communities initiative.
